Dearest Princess Friends:
I recently got a letter from a little girl that said she didn’t know what a Hobbyduke was. It surprised me, because I can hardly remember what life was like without my own Hobbyduke teacher, Gillyflower! So let me give you a quick idea of what Hobbydukes are, and why they are SO important to us Princesses.
First, a Hobbyduke is a very, very old creature. Most of them are over 1,000 years old! They’re not exactly human – more like leprechauns or really big fairies. They are able to work magic and they are very, very smart.
Their land, called Hobbidew, got lost thousands of years ago in a magical place called the Tamula Diamond. Have you heard of the Bermuda Triangle? It’s kind of like that; except the Tamula Diamond transports people into a magical realm. (My own island, Everley, got lost in the Tamula Diamond a few years ago.)
Anyway, when my island, Everley, had a volcanic eruption, and was shifted into the realm of the Tamula Diamond, all of the people in all of the kingdoms were SUPER scared. We didn’t know what happened. And then, out of the blue, the little Hobbyduke people appeared, hopping around and doing little flips, and working magic to fix-up our Kingdoms.
Each Kingdom was assigned several Hobbydukes that would work with the children of the Royal Families as we grew up – teaching us the magical ways of our new world, and helping us to become the leaders we need to be.
Since I’m a Princess, I was assigned a Hobbyduke. Her name is Gillyflower, and I love her with all of my heart. She’s one of my bestest friends!
So I hope that answers some of your questions, and I hope, little Princesses, that you will find your own Hobbyduke in life – a person that you can trust to always love you, help you through tough times, and teach you what you need to know to become a leader to YOUR people one day. Since Hobbydukes are magic, they can change how they look – and they may not look like a Hobbyduke at all. Your Mom or Dad could be a Hobbyduke, or maybe your favorite teacher at school. Anytime someone cares for you very much and helps you become a better person, it’s possible they’re just your Hobbyduke in disguise.
I can’t WAIT to see you this year at the Princess Festival!! Gillyflower and I have a little tea party planned and we hope you’ll come play with us. Even if you don’t make it to the Princess Festival, remember that I love you and I believe in you.
